Visite du Branchage dates for Parish of Grouville, Friday, 04 July 2025 and Friday, 19 September 2025.

Message from the Connétable

Dear Parishioner.

There has been much media comment on the new painted pavements around Grouville School so I thought I would inform you of the reasons why this project was undertaken.

Grouville School sits in a beautiful rural location and is ringed by two narrow lanes and a main road. One of those lanes has an ‘S’ bend in it which has no vision around it.

Over recent decades cars have become much wider and larger and following a UK Consultant report commissioned by the Government and published in January 2022 about safety around the School, I agreed to implement their safety recommendations. Discussions have been ongoing with the School since then, who are now delighted that these recommendations have been acted upon.

Today is the first day of the second half of the school summer term and the parish has had feedback from the School with the Senior Procureur having visited this morning Monday 2nd June.  All seemed satisfied with the new pedestrian measures. Not only do children now have a designated path to use but also parents with buggies can feel safer.

There is criticism of the colour but red stands out in what can be a shaded lane.  Whilst being bright at the moment, it will fade in time.

This is why a bright colour was chosen, other colour options would not stand out enough in the winter months and future years.

Grouville has also suffered 3 road fatalities since I have become Connetable and they were all tragic and devastating to all concerned so if this painted pavement saves one person from injury or worse then it will have been worthwhile.

Having accepted the recommendations of the report I would have felt personally responsible if any injuries were sustained around the School.

Yours Sincerely

Mark Labey
